Nat is short for National, a player on the Washington baseball team.
Phil is short for Phillie, a player on the Philadelphia baseball team.
Both the Phillies and the Nationals are in the National League of Major League Baseball. The American League is the othe league.
Since both were shortened names the answered is shortened from National Leaguer to NLER.
